Nine to Five, Five to Nine

We all have a "9 to 5". You know, a day job - a job that pays the bills. Some people love their day job and others do not, however, whether you like your job or not, it's easy to get caught in the rut of putting all your time and energy into your day job while neglecting your own passions and interests during off-hours, the "5 to 9".

As for me, I've been fortunate enough to really like my day job in corporate America. However, I do have other interests and passions that I don't believe I should ever abandon or neglect because of my day job. During my 5 to 9, I like to create. I've found that that can mean many things - drawing, designing graphics, shooting photos, editing photos, modeling, brainstorming ideas, and/or contributing to my men's fashion and lifestyle blog. As of late, I've really been focusing on my blog because I truly have found fulfillment in sharing my tips and advice or offering inspiration to others in the areas of fashion, lifestyle, and career development. Aside from creating, I enjoy being active with the Arts Commission of Toledo and attending many local art events in the city.

I encourage you all to not get lost in your 9 to 5 causing you to neglect your 5 to 9. Life is about balance. We need to understand that our life doesn't end at 5pm, it just transitions - it transitions to whatever it is YOU want to indulge in, take part of, or focus on. I read a quote saying, "If you're passionate about something, you're going to make it happen. If you can wake up for work at 8am because it’s something you have to do, then wake up early on the weekend, make yourself a nice breakfast and then make music, art or whatever it is you enjoy." It may take some sacrifices if you're burnt out and tired, but there's always a benefit when you invest in yourself and indulge in what makes you happy. That happiness filters through other areas of your life and positively adds to your overall well-being.
